This post is pretty overdue! As much as food at the Flying Pig (Gastown) is good, it is a bit much to go twice within 2 weeks (yes, this was pretty far back in the month)! It was one of my best friend’s birthday and she picked this place. I was just glad I can make some recommendation from my experience a week ago!
This time, service is much better! Still the restaurant won’t seat you until all the party is here. The other girl got her wallet stolen while working at Surrey Memorial Hospital so she had to come late to deal with more serious matter. We told the host that it was my gf’s birthday and we will order immediately and he so graciously seated us! Our waitress came immediately with water and informed us of the specials for the day. Service is definitely better and more professional than the location in Gastown.
The bread and balsamic vinaigrette with olive oil were brought to us promptly. Both items were standard. The birthday girl and I were starving and we didn’t even take a pic. We dived in immediately!
Since my uncle was visiting from Hong Kong, I have been eating out at least once if not twice a day. I was still pretty full from lunch so the birthday girl and I decided to share an entree and a side. She decided on the special of Mussels and Fries and an Andrew’s Pulled Pork Poutine.
I love the string fries that came with the mussels! It is crispy and tasty! I just love the texture and crunchiness of it. It is a bit of a hassle to eat if you pull a fry from underneath, the whole pile would crumble down and create a mess! It can be frustrating to eat ;p The mussels were so juicy and plump! The white wine sauce was delectable and made a very good dipping sauce for the fries! I wish we ordered more bread or fries to soak up all the deliciousness! This dish was very well made!
The poutine was same as the other location so I won’t review it again.
It is quite a plus that food quality is consistent and good in both location. Overall, I prefer the Yaletown location for better service.
